Murray eases past Lopez

British number one Andy Murray claimed a clinical victory over Feliciano Lopez to secure a place in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters Series.

The Scot raised his game at the end of a tight first set against the Spaniard to clinch the tie-break 7-5.

Murray broke immediately in the second set and produced solid tennis to claim a 7-6 6-4 victory.

Murray, who will face Filippo Volandri in the next round, told Sky Sports 2 afterwards: "It's important to be realistic with the first match on the clay and not to go for too much. The game plan worked well."
