Murray glad to be back

Andy Murray believes his injury lay-off this summer has helped him to enjoy his tennis again.

Murray, 20, returned to the court in New York on Monday fully fit for the first time since injuring his right wrist in a tournament in Hamburg in May and eased into the US Open with a straight-sets victory over Uruguayan qualifier Pablo Cuevas, dropping just five games in the process.

"I think I sort of learned to appreciate playing tennis again," Murray said. "I was getting angry on court about things that weren't really necessary."

He added: "I was playing great tennis this year and still wasn't really that happy when I was playing.

"I think the biggest thing for me was if you go and look at videos of my matches at Wimbledon 2005, when I played here in 2005, my attitude and body language was excellent.

"Then last year it's not been as good. I've been showing more negative signs than I have positive.

"So I learned just to enjoy playing again because I missed such a big chunk of this year.

"I can play great tennis and I should enjoy it more.

"That's probably the reason I was a bit more relaxed or looked calmer (against Cuevas)."

Murray can now look forward to a second round encounter with veteran Swede Jonas Bjorkman.
