Murray happy with expectation

Andy Murray will get his bid to become Britain's first homegrown Wimbledon men's champion for more than 70 years under way when he steps out on Centre Court against veteran Frenchman Fabrice Santoro on Tuesday afternoon.

The British number one, ranked 11th in the world and seeded 12 by the All England Club, is the third match up - by which time the anticipation up on 'Murray Mount' at the Aorangi Terrace in front of the giant TV screen will no doubt have reached fever pitch.

"In terms of pressure and expectation, it does not feel that much different to me," said the 21-year-old, who missed the grand slam tournament due to a wrist injury 12 months ago.

He added: "Centre Court is one of the most special of anywhere in the world, it is so quiet during the points then when you finish, it completely erupts.

"The build-up is the hardest part, there are a lot of media requirements, questions asked about how you are going to do.

"Once you get out there, everything is like any other tournament but with some extra support, which really helps."

Murray has yet to get past the fourth round of a grand slam and knows just how his life would change forever were he to emerge triumphant at the end of the Wimbledon fortnight.

"The US Open was always my favourite tournament when I was growing up, but when I missed Wimbledon last year, it kind of changed my feelings about it a bit - seeing my brother [Jamie] win [the mixed doubles] was awesome, with the support he got," Murray told BBC Sport.

"It was tough to miss it last year, but I have played the Davis Cup here since and that was an unbelievable atmosphere.

"You can play on huge courts, but this is the only place where everyone is rooting for you to win and that makes a big difference."
