Murray hopes to produce big-game form

Andy Murray hopes his experience of important matches will prove decisive as he aims to start the year with a tournament victory when he meets Stanislas Wawrinka in the Qatar Open final on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Scot overcame world number four Nikolay Davydenko of Russia 6-4 6-3 to repeat his last-four success of last year and reach the final in Doha.

"We often practise together and we get on very well," Murray said of a player ranked 25 places below him. "I lost to him twice, but we both play at a much higher level now.

"It's nice to play him in the final. Maybe I'm a bit more experienced in finals than Stan. It would be nice to start the year off with a win."

British number one Murray and world number 11 Murray felt his style was also well suited to Davydenko's game in their last-four clash on Friday.

"Davydenko started off well and I had to do a lot of running, which I'm used to playing against him," said Murray on the ATP Tour website. "I know that my game is quite frustrating for him."

Murray, who has looked imperious at times this week, made an uncharacteristically nervous start against Davydenko, dropping his serve in the opening game and allowed his opponent to dominate the early exchanges.

But Davydenko's serving let him down in the sixth game and a double fault allowed Murray to level.

Murray consolidated the break with a first love service game to edge ahead for the first time and broke the tournament favourite a second time to wrap up the first set after 44 minutes.

The Scot then strengthened his grip on the match, forcing Davydenko into a series of errors in an increasingly predictable second set.
