Murray on the mend

British number one Andy Murray feels his injured wrist is improving and is hopeful of playing at Wimbledon.

The 20-year-old world number nine has missed the French Open and Artois Championships since suffering the injury at last month's Hamburg Masters. He is now practising regularly in preparation for Wimbledon and intends to make a decision on the championships next weekend.

Murray told The Sun: "Friday was a really good day. I got in a solid 90-minute training session on the courts. The wrist feels much better, even compared to the start of the week."

He added: "Now, I'll base myself at Wimbledon for the next week and will play there every day.

"Friday, in particular, I was able to put far more pressure on the wrist. I'm serving at full power and also hitting my backhand with full power - although I'm still being a bit careful with my forehand as I put more pressure on the wrist when I'm hitting the ball."

Murray, however, insists he will not risk further damage by playing at Wimbledon if he is not ready.

He added: "Who knows? I may still fall short of Wimbledon. I'll give it everything but I'll be sensible and won't risk further injury."
