The top-seeded Briton, who beat Fernando Verdasco in the final last year, improved to 6-0 at the hardcourt tournament and claimed his sixth consecutive win overall, having won the Madrid Masters on Sunday.
"I haven't seen (Troicki) play much, so I didn't really have too many tactics, but I tried to serve well and change the speed of the ball a lot," said Murray, who blasted four aces and won 24-of-26 first serve points in the 67-minute encounter.
A four-time champion this season, Murray will reach the 50-win plateau for the first time in his career if he is able to get past unseeded Latvian Ernests Gulbis.
Third seed Verdasco has already booked his place in the quarter-finals, beating Karlis Lejnieks 6-1 6-3 in one of two second-round matches on Wednesday.
Awaiting the Spaniard in the last eight is Germany's Rainer Schuettler, who ousted Slovakian Dominik Hrbaty 6-3 6-3 in a battle of unseeded players.
Former world number one and two-time grand slam champion Marat Safin captured a 6-2 6-4 win in his first-round encounter against Sergiy Stakhovsky of the Ukraine.
Up next for the eighth seed is Kazakhstani qualifier Andrey Golubev, a 6-1 6-4 winner against Olivier Rochus.
