Murray plans Wimbledon warm-up

Andy Murray is set to spend some valuable practise time at the All England club this week, ensuring he is in top condition when the action starts for real at Wimbledon.

The British number one pulled out of the Artois Championship at Queen's last week because of a thumb injury, but returned to action on Tuesday when he beat Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 6-3 5-7 12-10 in an exhibition match at the Boodles Challenge, Stoke Park.

The Scott missed Wimbledon last year because of a wrist problem and is determined to give himself the best possible preparation, saying: "I will spend most of my time down at Wimbledon now, practising with some of the other guys in the tournament."

He added: "It is about trying to get used to the courts down there, making sure my body is well rested and in good shape for the start of the tournament."

Murray was happy enough with his workout against Tipsarevic.

"I had not been on the court for four days since Queen's so it was nice to get out there and have an hour-and-a-half of a pretty competitive match," he said.

"I got used to moving again, tested the thumb out and there were not too many problems.

"When I saw the TV replay of my thumb being massaged [at Queen's], I thought it was a bit pathetic. But I enjoyed it out there, and managed to play some good tennis."

There was, though, something of a scare when Murray slipped at the back court during game six of the opening set, and lay motionless for a moment.

However, the young Scot was soon on his feet, smiling and joking to the crowd: "I am okay!"
