Murray plays waiting game

Andy Murray should get the definitive verdict today on whether he can play at the French Open, which begins in Paris on Sunday.

Murray and his coach Brad Gilbert delivered contrasting injury reports over the weekend, but when the cast on the 20-year-old Scot's right wrist is removed, a medical examination will show how the damage he sustained in Hamburg is healing.

While Gilbert was adamant Murray had no chance of playing at Roland Garros, stating the British number one has "pulled the plug on the clay-court season", his star pupil issued a 'wait-and-see' statement.

Murray insists he will not give up until a doctor tells him his hopes are forlorn, although if tests show any lingering damage, his chances of playing at the grand slam would appear slim.

"I went to see the doctor a few days ago and had an X-ray," Murray told his personal website.

"No broken bones so that's good but I had a lot of inflammation which made it hard to read, so I got a cast and will wear it until I go for a second scan.

"I will make a decision on the French Open and grass season once I have a better idea of what the injury is and how long it is going to take to heal, which I will hopefully have a better idea of on Monday."
