Murray prepares to meet familiar face

Andy Murray will look forward to meeting an old friend on court when he faces Chile's Paul Capdeville in the US Open second round.

World number two Murray, 22, opened his Flushing Meadows account on Tuesday night with a straight-sets victory over Ernests Gulbis of Latvia under the lights at Arthur Ashe Stadium, to set up a second round clash with a player he used to train with at the Sanchez-Casal tennis academy in Barcelona.

"We had the same coach when we were in Barcelona," Murray said. "We travelled a little bit together. I played doubles with him when I was like 16, 17, one or two tournaments, so actually know his game pretty well."

Murray, who will have been buoyed by the early exits of potentially troublesome rivals in his quarter of the draw in 27th seed Ivo Karlovic and 19th seed Stan Wawrinka, admitted he had not had a recent scouting report on world number 87 Capdeville, who progressed with a first round win over Victor Crivoi of Romania.

"I say I know his game well but I haven't seen him play for a long time," he added.

"I know what his technique and his game is like. It's not going to be any surprises.

"He just does everything well although he doesn't move particularly well, so I'm going to try and exploit that."
