Murray: Scotland need team effort

Euan Murray has warned Scotland fans he cannot rescue his country's RBS 6 Nations campaign single-handedly as he prepares to make his Test comeback against Italy.

Murray's reputation has grown in his absence from the team since he suffered a rib injury playing for Northampton a month ago as Scotland endured a losing start to the Six Nations, with defeats to Wales and France.

"It's (the scrum) eight guys working together and if any individuals think they're better than they are then pride comes before a fall," said Murray, one of two changes to the side beaten 22-13 in France. "We've got to work hard together, work for each other and try to put things right."

Murray was eager to point out he has not been the only absentee from the pack which had been so impressive in the November Tests.

"There are other players who weren't involved in the first two games of the Six Nations who were in the autumn," he said.

"Nathan Hines wasn't there and the second row has a massive impact on a game of rugby. That's where a lot of the power comes from in the scrums."

Despite his modesty, Murray is "aware" of the expectations that will be on him come Saturday but he was keen to put the game into context.

"For me, personally, there are more important things in life than rugby," he said.

"Rugby's my job and to play for my country is a tremendous honour and privilege and I'll do it with everything I've got."
