Murray seeded eighth for Wimbledon

Andy Murray has been seeded eighth for Wimbledon despite his participation at the All England Club remaining in doubt.

Murray has not played since suffering a wrist injury in the Hamburg Masters last month, and has yet to confirm if he will be fit to play when the third grand slam of the year starts next Monday.

But the British number one's world ranking has ensured a place among the top seeds, with defending champion Roger Federer number one seed in the men's singles and French Open champion Justine Henin heading the women's.

The men's seedings are based on the current world rankings, but are slightly adjusted to take into account grass-court performances in the last two years.

French Open champion and last year's beaten finalist, Rafael Nadal, is seeded second, ahead of Artois Championships winner Andy Roddick.

World number four Nikolay Davydenko is seeded sixth with Novak Djokovic and Fernando Gonzalez moving above him in the list.

The seeds in the women's singles are almost identical to the world rankings, but former champion Venus Williams moves up from 31st in the world to number 24 seed and world number 19 Vera Zvonareva is ruled out with a wrist injury.

Defending champion Amelie Mauresmo is seeded fourth, behind former winner Maria Sharapova and Serbia's Jelena Jankovic.
