Murray should take no chances - Henman

Tim Henman arrives in Paris on Tuesday to prepare for the French Open, with Andy Murray poised to announce whether he will join him.

And Henman has urged Murray to stay away from Roland Garros if he has even the slightest doubt about whether his right wrist will stand up to the demands of the clay-court game.

Henman, 32, told Sky Sports News: "It's obviously some tendon damage. The wrist is such an important area in the game and there's a lot of strain on that area. The most important thing is that when he comes back on the court he's 100%."

He added: "There's no point in rushing. He's only just had his 20th birthday so he's going to have hopefully a long career ahead of him. He doesn't want to jeopardise that. I think it's unlikely that he'll be in Paris and we'll just wait and see what's going to happen for the grass."

Murray, 20, has yet to announce his plans after contradicting coach Brad Gilbert's statement that he had written off the clay-court season.

The British number one could still reveal that the tests he underwent have shown minimal damage, but the French Open begins on Sunday.

Henman has also been susceptible to injuries in recent seasons but the 32-year-old is in decent physical shape.

Having been a semi-finalist at the French in 2004, Henman looks forward to competing, even if it remains the surface on which he has experienced only fleeting success.

He has lost both his matches on clay this year - to former French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero in Monte Carlo, and to Nicolas Almagro in Rome - but was keen to put the two losses into context.

Henman told Sky News: "Over the course of my career my game has improved on clay as much as any other surface. In the last few tournaments I've played some really tough players and come up just a little bit short. I don't think there's anything drastically wrong with my game."
