Murray revealed a back spasm had forced his retirement from Monday's first-round doubles match with brother Jamie and that placed into doubt the new world number 10's participation in the singles tournament.
"I hit a shot and my back went into spasm," he revealed after the doubles clash. "It got worse and worse after every game."
Murray junior appeared to be struggling during the first set against Poles Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.
The pair lost the first set tie-break before Andy bowed out after consultation with the trainer.
The Britons had earned an immediate break point which went unconverted. In the fifth game they converted a break point at the fifth attempt to take a 3-2 first-set lead only for the Polish pair to break back immediately.
The rest of the set went with serve until Fyrstenberg and Matkowski won the tie break and the Britons were forced to retire.
