Mushtaq admits England interest

Mushtaq Ahmed has confirmed he may be the man to fill the vacant position of spin-bowling coach with the England and Wales Cricket Board.

England head coach Peter Moores, who has close ties with Mushtaq from their time together at Sussex, has spoken of his belief that the Pakistani can play an important role for England.

And Mushtaq admitted to www.PakPassion.net: "I may be doing something with English spinners in conjunction with the ECB."

However, Mushtaq has already been approached by Sussex regarding the possibility of joining them in a coaching capacity next summer, and has admitted he would be tempted by a similar offer from Pakistan.

He continued: "I'd be interested if an opportunity [with Pakistan] came along.

"I want to pay my country back for all that it's given me, they looked after me when I was young and made me who I am."

The leg-spinner only retired from first-class cricket in August and admits he does not yet have the relevant coaching qualifications for the role.

However, he explained: "I intend to gain them. However there's no substitute for experience.

"I've played cricket for 22 years now, against all strengths of opposition, at all levels of the game and in all conceivable conditions.

"You can't learn that sort of thing from books and in classrooms."
