Nadal cruises to French Open triumph

Nadal eased to his 28th unbeaten match at Roland Garros as he humbled the top-seeded Swiss after one hour and 48 minutes on Philippe Chatrier Court.
The 22-year-old Spaniard's dominant victory secures him his fourth French Open title in succession to equal the open era record set by Swedish legend Bjorn Borg almost 30 years ago.
Fittingly, it was Borg who presented Nadal with the silverware on the podium after a match that marked the first time Federer had lost to Nadal in straight sets at a grand slam event.
Nadal's one-sided victory means he is only the third player in history to have won the French Open without dropping a set, the others being Borg (twice) and Ilie Nastase.
The manner of the defeat saw Federer set a number of unwanted milestones. His capitulation resulted in the fewest number of games played in a Roland Garros final since 1977, and was the shortest final in terms of time on court since 1980.
Meanwhile, Nadal's final-set whitewash marked the first time since 1999 Federer had lost a set to love on the professional tour.
Federer must now wait at least another 12 months to achieve his goal of becoming only the sixth man in history to complete a career Grand Slam, but he remained gracious after his ninth defeat in 10 clay court meetings with Nadal.
"It's been a great tournament, to lose in the final is never fun but I will try again next year," said Federer, who committed 35 unforced errors in the match.
"I'm feeling good, looking forward to the end of the year and Wimbledon. But Rafa deserves it so much."
