Nadal eases into last eight

Reigning champion Rafael Nadal passed his first genuine test of this year's French Open with flying colours as he surged past Lleyton Hewitt in a one-sided fourth-round match.

Nadal, who turned 21 on Sunday, set up a quarter-final meeting with fellow Spaniard Carlos Moya by sweeping to a 6-3 6-1 7-6 (7/5) win in two hours and 21 minutes on Philippe Chatrier court.

The victory means Nadal is still on course to become the first man since Bjorn Borg in 1980 - and just the second man in 93 years - to win three successive Roland Garros titles.

Hewitt had given the world number two a real examination at last month's Masters event in Hamburg and it was expected to be just as close a confrontation at Roland Garros, but an anticipated epic failed to materialise as a disappointing Hewitt struggled to cope with Nadal's power and amazing court coverage.
