Nervous win thrills Low

Germany coach Joachim Low admitted his side were "trembling" before they finally saw off gutsy Turkey to reach the final of Euro 2008.

Philipp Lahm secured a 3-2 victory for the Germans with a 90th-minute winner in a pulsating last-four clash in Basle, just when it looked like Turkey forward Semih Senturk's strike four minutes earlier was going to take the match into extra time.

Low said: " At the end, we were trembling. Turkey never give up. We knew they would be dangerous in the closing minutes - they have shown that before this tournament - but my team were able to come back."

He added: "We were lucky enough to score in 90th minute and we were confident they would not come back from that.

"But it was a difficult victory. We had to fight because Turkey played very well."

Turkey were probably the better of the two teams, deservedly going ahead in the 22nd minute through Ugur Boral only for Bastian Schweinsteiger to equalise against the run of play five minutes later.

Although Germany improved after the break, and went in front when Miroslav Klose beat Recber Rustu to Lahm's cross to head into an unguarded net, Turkey's remarkable resilience came to the fore again when Senturk made it 2-2.

Low, who managed Turkish club sides Fenerbahce and Adanaspor AS earlier in his coaching career, was full of praise for his opponents who have lit up the tournament with their never-say-die attitude.

"They are strong and technically good, and we weren't able to get in the tackles we needed to (in the first half) because they were so strong," he added.

"I have worked in Turkey so I know a bit about them, and when they get that feeling and are able to work their way into a tournament, they develop an enthusiasm and it helps them excel."
