New deal for De La Cruz

Ulises De La Cruz has agreed a one-year contract to stay at Reading next season.

The 33-year-old Ecuador defender's contract expires at the end of June, but he has agreed terms on a new deal.

"I'm really pleased that Ulises will be staying with us," said Reading director of football Nick Hammond. "I went to see him play for Ecuador against Peru in Barcelona last week, and even though it was an end of season friendly he was still showing a great attitude and working hard up and down the pitch."

He added: "That really illustrates the level of his professionalism and the kind of player he is.

"He has been a very influential character during his time with us and always offers a fantastic example to our young players. I'm sure he will make an excellent contribution in the forthcoming season, as he did during the last campaign."

De La Cruz has been named in the Ecuador squad for the forthcoming Copa America, which starts in Venezuela on June 26.

The right-back made 15 appearances for the Royals last season and scored one goal, a memorable solo effort against Sheffield United.
