New Zealand stage fightback

Bangladesh lost five wickets before lunch to go into the break 206 for five and trail New Zealand by 14 runs on the third day of the first Test in Dunedin.

In their first innings Bangladesh had been dismissed for just 137 and on Saturday it looked like they had made up for that by reaching stumps 148 without loss.

It had left them just 72 runs behind New Zealand and all to play for in the morning session but the hosts stunted Bangladesh's hopes of a fightback.

Junaid Siddique and Tamim Iqbal had started the day unbeaten on 69 and 72 respectively and the latter racked up a couple of fours early on to move closer to the century mark.

But soon after New Zealand took control and quickly dismissed Iqbal (84) and Siddique (74).

Iqbal was the first to go when he clipped Kyle Mills' delivery onto off stump and Siddique followed soon after when he got an outside edge towards Stephen Fleming at first slip for the catch, leaving Bangladesh on 167 for two.

Just 12 more runs were picked up before the next wicket fell as Habibul Bashar (11) was caught out by Matthew Sinclair.

Iain O'Brien ensured New Zealand were firmly in the driving seat at lunch when from his delivery Mohammad Ashraful's drive was well caught by Craig Cumming after picking up 23 runs before and he then dismissed Aftab Ahmed to leave Bangladesh reeling.
