Nixon inspires last-ball win

A timely half-century from England World Cup star Paul Nixon helped Leicestershire to a dramatic last-ball victory over Scotland in their Friends Provident North Conference match at Grace road.

Nixon hit 60 off 56 balls before being bowled by Dewald Nel with the fifth ball of the last over with the home side still needing two runs to reach their victory target of 256.

Debutant Dan Rowe clubbed the last delivery to Fraser Watts at cover point and the batsmen scampered through for the second run as a wild throw went over wicketkeeper Colin Smith's head, giving Leicestershire victory by four wickets.

Nottinghamshire made light work of the 235-run target set by Worcestershire to claim their second successivewin.

Worcestershire opener Phil Jaques struck 15 fours en route to his 113 as the home side laboured to 234 for eight.

Having won the toss and opted to bat, Stephen Moore (21), captain Vikram Solanki (18) and Ben Smith (three) fell cheaply with little in the way of support lower down the order as Mark Ealham's three for 27 represented the pick of the Outlaws' bowlers.

And the visitors won with seven wickets in hand, Mark Wagh (68 not out) and David Hussey (88) capitalising on the wicket to hit the winning runs with nine balls to spare.

Andrew Flintoff returned to Lancashire colours with an encouraging 66 but it was Australian Brad Hodge who was the star of their win over Northamptonshire.

Hodge smashed an unbeaten 130 off 133 balls to give Lancashire their first one-day win of the season at Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old World Cup winner hit 10 fours and three sixes in the 20-run rain-affected victory. Flintoff's 66 was his first half-century since January in Hobart and also his first in a Lancashire shirt since his 78 against Hampshire in 2001.
