No decision on Warnock future

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has admitted he has not made a decision about his future after the club's relegation from the Premier League.

The Blades lost 2-1 to Wigan at Bramall Lane on the final day of the season to go down as their goal difference was just one worse than the Latics.

Warnock said: "I don't want to comment on myself at the minute, I feel that I might say something I'll regret. I think I'll leave that for a few days."

West Ham's survival only rubbed salt into the wound, the club having escaped with a £5.5million fine for irregularities over the signings of Argentinians Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.

"It is a hard pill to swallow, especially with the club being my club as well," added the lifelong Blades fan on his side's relegation.

"I couldn't have asked for any more for effort and commitment - the disappointment is we've gone down on one goal.

"But I'm afraid life is like that sometimes and I don't know what is around the corner."

Only last month the 58-year-old Warnock said he planned to have a couple more years in management but accepted that probably depended on how his team fared in the Premiership survival stakes.

He has been offered a new two-year contract by the Blades but the exact terms were dependent on which division they were playing in next season.

Had United stayed up Warnock would have nearly doubled his reported £400,000-a-year salary, handsome reward for guaranteeing the club a slice of the huge television revenue on offer next season. However, relegation means he will be offered only a comparatively small rise to lead the club's bid to win promotion back to the Premiership.
