No language barrier for Scolari

Luiz Felipe Scolari's imperfect English will be not prevent him getting his message across to his Chelsea players, according to the Portugal coach's spokesman.

There have been concerns about Scolari - who will take up his new post as Chelsea boss from July 1 - over the standard of his English and how that will impact on his early days in the job.

But spokesman Acaz Fellegger, who is following Portugal's European Championship campaign in Geneva, said: "English will not be a problem for him. Felipe has already worked in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Japan. In all these countries, he communicated in English."

He added: "Of course, England is the native country of the language but I can assure you that language will not be any problem.

"I have been working with him for the last 11 years and I know that he will overtake any possible problem."

Scolari, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002 before taking over as Portugal manager a year later, has never coached at club level in Europe.

But Fellegger is confident he has enough experience to succeed with Chelsea.

"It is true, he has never worked with a European club," Fellegger said.

"But for someone with his experience, working in the Premier League will not be much different to the his previous experiences. Anyone who works in football knows that football has an universal language.

"He will get acquainted easily with the British culture, as he did with the countries where he worked in the past."
