Noble linked with Catalans

Wigan coach Brian Noble has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacancy at Catalans Dragons, according to the Perpignan club's chairman.

Bernard Guasch has revealed that the former Great Britain boss, who is out of contract at the JJB Stadium at the end of the season, is among around 20 applicants hoping to succeed Mick Potter in the south of France for 2009.

Guasch told the 'Rugby Leaguer and League Express' newspaper: "Brian Noble is coming to the end of his contract with Wigan and is negotiating with them - but he has put his name forward."

Other names being linked with the Catalans vacancy are Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp, Celtic Crusaders boss John Dixon and former London Broncos coach Tony Rea, while outgoing Canterbury Bulldogs boss Steve Folkes heads a list of potential candidates from Australia.

Another former Great Britain coach, David Waite, who oversaw the Catalans' entry into Super League before the arrival of Potter, is fielding applications on behalf of the club in Australia.
