Ohuruogu back in the fold

UK Athletics will ask Christine Ohuruogu to spearhead the British challenge in the 4x400 metres relay at the World Championships even though she has only just completed her drugs ban.

Ohuruogu has been named in the Great Britain team for Osaka two days after she completed a 12-month suspension for missing three out-of-competition tests and UK Athletics performance director Dave Collins had no qualms about welcoming the 23-year-old Londoner back into the fold.

"I think we've been up front and always said she would be eligible for selection," said Collins.

The selectors also want to see the Commonwealth champion, who has not raced since July last year, compete in the individual 400 metres.

Collins added: "As it is, she has the qualifying time and including her in the relay also then made it an easier decision to pick her for the 400m.

"She's going as a member of the relay squad. But she's been chosen for the 400m flat to help her get back some of her fluency."

Ohuruogu will compete with Nicola Sanders and Lee McConnell in the one-lap event.
