The 23-year-old has only just returned from a 12-month ban after missing three out-of-competition drug tests but made an impressive statement of her credentials earlier this week by recording a time of 50.56secs in a pre-Championships warm-up race.
Ohuruogu then proved she remains one of Britain's strongest hopes for a gold medal in the Far East as she cantered home to comfortably win her heat with a reserved performance which suggests she has the potential to surpass her personal best of 50.28secs.
Nicola Sanders, Scotland's Lee McConnell and Ireland's Joanne Cuddihy also breezed into Monday's semi-finals. European Indoor champion Sanders finished a strong second to US champion DeeDee Trotter in a time of 51.45secs, with Cuddihy third in a season's-best time of 51.55secs.
Sanders said: "It was actually better than I thought it would be so I went out relatively hard and I did what I normally do to about 250-300m and I felt really comfortable so I took it pretty easy.
"The American girl came up but I was not going to fight her because I wanted to finish in the top two and that is what I have done.
"I am really confident. I had psyched myself to think it was going to be really hard but it was much, much better so hopefully that bodes even better for Monday and hopefully Wednesday's final."
McConnell is now Scotland's sole representative in Osaka after Andrew Lemoncello failed to advance through the 3,000metres steeplechase heats.
Lemoncello was left stunned by his performance as the US-based UK champion finished over 30 seconds off the qualification time at the Nagai Stadium, slipping away from the leading pack to finish last in a time of 8mins 58.93secs.
He said: "The first 800m was very easy, the pace was very easy, but I was already feeling that there was nothing in me. It continued at that steady pace but I was shocked. I don't know what happened, there was nothing left in my body, I have never experienced anything like before in my life."
