Onions tears through Windies

Graham Onions and Graeme Swann scythed through the West Indies' batting as the tourists lost seven wickets for 29 runs in a paltry 152 all out at Lord's.

The tourists therefore ended day two of the npower Test series following on - and by stumps still trailed by 186, on 39 for two second time round.

Off-spinner Swann (three for 16) began the collapse with two wickets in two balls - to add to his maiden 50 in England's 377 - and debutant seamer Onions (five for 38) then took four in seven balls.

The blur of departing batsmen began when Swann saw off opener Devon Smith and then Shivnarine Chanderpaul for a golden duck just before tea.

After Onions grabbed his slice of the action, the West Indies' spot of bother had turned to terminal and hectic decline - and their capitulation, in an innings which lasted only 32.3 overs, contained the loss of four wickets for two runs at one stage.

Swann had finished unbeaten on 63 when England were all out in early afternoon.

The Nottinghamshire all-rounder's eighth-wicket stand of 93 with Ravi Bopara (143) was followed by two more successes for Fidel Edwards (six for 92), who completed his best figures against these opponents.

Then after a false start when he was bizarrely given the new ball for two overs by Andrew Strauss, Swann returned to undermine the West Indies again.
