Pampling: Player must name names

Australian Rod Pampling called on Gary Player to name names if he is sure some golfers are taking drugs.

"If he's definite he should name the people," said the Australian. "I don't think anyone should stand up and say there are definitely people using drugs and then not name them.

"I think you have to name the people if you want to make it a worthy statement. I haven't seen anyone, so I don't know who he's talking about. We'll have to wait and see if he names someone."

England's David Howell added: "I was amazed by the comments. If there was one person in the world (taking drugs) I would be amazed. I'm shocked by his comments, but maybe I am naive.

"It's not even on the radar. I could be absolutely wrong, but of the people I know, no chance. I don't think we have a problem."

Player caused a sensation on the eve of the championship by saying: "I know for a fact that there are golfers, whether it's HGH (human growth hormone), creatine or steroids, that some golfers are doing it.

"Golfers around the world playing on Tour I would say there's 10 guys taking something. I might be way out - definitely not going to be lower, but might be a hell of a lot more.

"And I'm delighted to see that they're going to start having tests at random, if that's what they officially have decided."
