Paterson move ramps up tension

The SRU demanded an explanation from Edinburgh and declared themselves "dismayed" after Scotland full-back Paterson was allowed to leave Scotland and join the team who finished top of the Guinness Premiership table last season.
The 29-year-old's exit comes at a time when Edinburgh are involved in a bitter dispute with the SRU over match fees.
Speaking before Paterson's exit was announced, Hadden announced he would like to see the conflict brought to an end.
"I think everybody would," Hadden told BBC1 Scotland, "as soon as possible."
Paterson was one of a dozen Edinburgh players refused permission by the club to attend Scotland training for a week earlier this month.
However the match fees row rumbles on. Edinburgh claim they are owed a substantial six-figure fee and have instructed their lawyers to act after the SRU rejected an offer to go to mediation.
Edinburgh confirmed that Paterson, who captained Scotland during the RBS 6 Nations Championship in the absence of injured Jason White, had left Murrayfield "by mutual consent and with immediate effect".
Within minutes, the SRU stated their position.
Their statement said: "Scottish Rugby is dismayed to hear the news that Chris Paterson is to leave Edinburgh Rugby with immediate effect to join the English Premiership club Gloucester. Scottish Rugby has written to Edinburgh Rugby asking for their explanation for Paterson's departure and how this affects their obligations to Scottish Rugby. An urgent response has been requested."
