Pietersen relishing England return

Kevin Pietersen is looking forward to "becoming a soldier again" after a dramatic week which saw him relinquish the England captaincy.

The 28-year-old left his post after disagreements with Peter Moores, who was sacked by the England and Wales Cricket Board over the incident, became public.

Pietersen told Sky News: "I never, ever once thought that I'm going to leave England and I've been betrayed and I'm angry towards anybody at all. I just thought, okay, I'm gonna have to become a soldier again and go back and do batting, which I absolutely love."

Pietersen reiterated that he harboured no ill will towards Moores, saying: "He's a fantastic guy.

"I've heard a comment of his where he says he wants England to win and he does want England to win. He's passionate about winning.

"I have absolutely no personal problem with Peter Moores, I just didn't feel that me and him could take the team forward."

Pietersen has continually stated that he acted in the best interests of English cricket in bringing his doubts about Moores to the attention of the ECB, but he admitted there were things he could have done differently.

Some have criticised him for remaining on holiday in South Africa, rather than taking an early flight home.

"I didn't feel that I'd done anything wrong. In hindsight, maybe when the story did break - the initial story about Michael Vaughan - maybe I should have jumped on a plane then. But I knew that wasn't the case, I knew that wasn't what I was talking to the ECB about."
