Pieterson ends Tendulkar resistance

Kevin Pietersen took only his second one-day international wicket to end Sachin Tendulkar's resistance and put England back in charge of the fourth match of the NatWest Series at Old Trafford.

England's star batsman was introduced to the attack in the 30th over after Tendulkar (55) and Yuvraj Singh (24 not out) had threatened to undo all the home side's earlier good work.

Pietersen's part-time off-spin drew a top edge from Tendulkar, which careered towards Andrew Flintoff, who held a catch on the deep square leg boundary to leave India on 105 for four with only 20 overs remaining.

Flintoff had earlier taken just six balls to strike on his latest injury comeback to leave the tourists floundering on 32 for three.

Playing on his home ground, the Lancashire all-rounder only returned to the side after a late fitness test on his knee.

But he wasted no time making an impact, removing India captain Rahul Dravid (one) after being introduced in the 12th over.

That followed superb opening spells from fellow seamers James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

After winning the toss, India raced to 17 off just three overs before Anderson clicked into gear to remove Sourav Ganguly for nine.

Broad soon found his rhythm and tempted the out-of-sorts Dinesh Karthik (four) into a mistimed shot before Flintoff and Pieterson took a wicket apiece to stem the tourists' progress.
