Pompey step up Nugent interest

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has admitted he is interested in signing Preston striker David Nugent.

The England international is destined to leave Deepdale but Sunderland have already pulled out of the race to sign him despite having a £6million bid accepted last month, while Everton are reported to be keen but not at that price.

"I'm interested in David. He works hard and scores goals and has a great attitude," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "I think he has a couple of clubs interested so we'll see what he wants to do."

He added: "I had a meeting with him and he seems like a great lad."
