Pompey swoop for Gekas
02 January 2009
The move for Gekas is with a view to a permanent deal in the summer and subject to the 28-year-old receiving international clearance.
Portsmouth boss Tony Adams said: "His goalscoring record is fantastic and he's always looking to score goals."
He continued: "He plays for the Greek national team and recently came on against Italy and scored.
"A couple of years ago he was the highest scorer in the Bundesliga. The Bundesliga is a fantastic league, so that's not an easy feat.
"He's a player that I think can come in and do really well straight away. He's certainly hungry to do well and hopefully he can hit the ground running."
On the Davis bid Adams added on the club's official website: "He's done great for this club and I would be mad to let him go somewhere else.
"I can understand why other clubs would be interested in Sean but we need him right now, so it's thanks but no thanks.
"We've offered him a three-and-a-half-year deal and we're hopeful that he'll sign that."
