Ponting hails Buchanan
30 January 2007
As Buchanan, 58, prepares to make way for the arrival of new coach Tim Nielsen, Ponting said: "It's not an easy thing to take over a team that's already playing good cricket and make it better, and he's been able to do that with me and with all of us.
"Since John's been in charge, all those players have raised their games once again. Some of that is to do with the players, but a lot of it is also to do with how you're coached as well."
Having been outwitted by England coach Duncan Fletcher during the 2005 Ashes series, Buchanan has developed his methods to become one of the most successful coaches in the game.
He helped Australia claim their first Ashes whitewash this century, guided them to their first-ever ICC Champions Trophy and is now celebrating being part of the first squad in history to claim three successive World Cups.
