Porterfield signs contract extension

Ireland captain William Porterfield has signed a two-year extension to his Gloucestershire contract.

The 24-year-old was 12 months into a two-season deal when the county offered him improved terms.

"I am looking forward to building on what has been a good first season for me," he said. "This is where my future lies and I hope the next two years will be successful for both me and the club."

Former England wicketkeeper Jack Russell, who has been acting as team mentor ahead of the return of John Bracewell as director of cricket next season, added: "Will has proved himself as a top cricketer and will be a huge asset to the club.

"He is the type of person you'd want next to you in the trenches."
