Powell decimates England order
07 January 2007
Star batsman Kevin Pietersen followed openers Matt Prior and Alastair Cook as three wickets went down in quick succession to the new ball after West Indies posted 289 for five.
Pietersen was caught at the second attempt by Devon Smith at second slip during a concerted spell of pace bowling - and England struggled to 62 for three.
Having ducked the previous delivery, which flew over wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin for four byes, Pietersen drove at the next to flash the ball behind.
Earlier in the over, the ninth of the innings, Cook cut low to point where Dwayne Smith clutched the catch above his bootlaces.
England were pegged back early on in their innings by the dismissal of Prior, who flirted with a delivery outside off-stump to be caught behind.
Powell's opening handful of overs resulted in figures of three for 16 as Chris Gayle's tourists dominated the decider in Nottingham.
With the series locked at 1-1 the winner takes all here and Gayle hit 82, Morton an unbeaten 82 and Dwayne Bravo an explosive 42, off only 24 deliveries, to set the platform for a victory push.
In all 116 runs came off the final 10 overs - which included seven bowling changes - as West Indies once again timed their assault perfectly.
