Powell dropped by Windies

West Indies pace bowler Daren Powell has been axed from the squad for the upcoming tour of England.

The 30-year-old was singled out for criticism during the home series against England and averages nearly 48 with the ball over a 37-Test career.

Also absent from the squad was all-rounder Ryan Hinds, while the selectors have plumped for three uncapped players in paceman Nelon Pascal, seamer Andrew Richardson and opener Dale Richards.

Richardson, 27, was a revelation for Jamaica in the domestic season, while 21-year-old Pascal has been in fine form for Grenada.

Chairman of selectors Clyde Butts said: "This year Richardson has been bowling very well and deserves his selection.

"He is tall, accurate and has the ability to get wickets at crucial stages in the game.

"Pascal has been doing well and he has some pace and can be a handful.

"The selectors believe he should be given the chance to grow and feature at international level."

Also named in the 17-man squad were batsman Narsingh Deonarine and all-rounder David Bernard, who have been out of the side for four and six years respectively.
