The Sussex wicketkeeper failed to return to the field after tea on the fourth day at Chester-le-Street and was instead taken to hospital to check on an injury he sustained to his right ring finger.

It prompted fears Prior would be ruled out of the three-match one-day series against the West Indies, which starts at Headingley on Thursday, with Paul Collingwood taking over the gloves for the remainder of Sunday's play at the Test.

But X-rays confirmed he had not suffered a broken finger and is expected to take the field again on Monday when England will press for the victory which would seal a 2-0 series whitewash.
