Probe as trouble mars derby

The Rugby Football League are to investigate the crowd disturbances which marred Hull's victory over rivals Hull KR in the 201st Humberside derby.

With only the Hull players remaining on the field after their 30-20 win at Craven Park, Hull fans entered the pitch and prompted home fans to do the same. Despite the best attempts of the police and stewards the two sets of fans clashed and there were reports that Hull centre Kirk Yeaman may have been attacked during the disturbances.

A spokesman for the Rugby Football League said: "We will be investigating the alleged incidents and will be talking to both clubs."

Both clubs have promised to "ban for life" anyone found guilty of being involved in the trouble.

The incidents took the shine off a thrilling contest which gave Hull a five-point cushion over bottom side Salford but left Rovers looking over their shoulders.

Fourteen points from Danny Tickle, who passed the milestone of 1,000 career points midway through the opening half, provided a solid base for the visitors' success, although it was three tries at the start of the second period that paved the way for victory.

The visitors had led 12-4 early on but Rovers replied through David Tangata-Toa and Mark O'Neill to lead 14-12 at the break.

Hull swung the game their way with three tries in 12 minutes from Scott Wheeldon, Willie Manu and Kirk Yeaman.
