Potter will succeed Daniel Anderson as coach of St Helens from the start of next season, but he feels the club he leaves behind is in great shape to make further progress.

"There is a promising future for Catalans Dragons," said Potter, whose side finished the regular season in third place before losing out to Wigan in the play-offs. "Young French people can see a future in rugby league in France - the sport is growing here."

He added: "The memory of 2006, where we started at a local community ground with a very small gymnasium and a very small office and facilities, to now, where we are probably the envy of some clubs in Super League.

"That progression is fantastic for the players of the future. Hopefully they can keep getting better and better."

Potter's successor at the Dragons will be former Australia international Kevin Walters.
