Question marks over Keane

Ireland captain Robbie Keane has emerged as a doubt ahead of his side's final European Championship qualifier with Wales on Saturday.

Keane sustained a foot injury towards the end of Tuesday's training session, and although he took a full part on Wednesday, he suffered a reaction and sat out Thursday's programme.

Caretaker manager Don Givens said: "We'll assess it on Friday morning and see if Robbie is okay to take part in the training session at the Millennium Stadium."

Givens was at least relieved to see goalkeeper Shay Given back in action, along with defender Paul McShane and winger Stephen Hunt.

Given has not played since October 27 due to a groin injury, but joined up with the squad late yesterday after being put through his paces by Newcastle on Tuesday. Given played a full part in training, as did McShane and Hunt who were both absent on Wednesday as a precaution due to calf and foot problems.

"We got them onto the pitch with the others, which was a bonus after the week we've had with injuries," added Givens. "We'll keep an eye on the three of them over the next 24 hours, but I'm optimistic they'll be fit for Saturday."
