The Finn sensationally secured his first world title by winning the Brazilian Grand Prix to pip Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso by a single point.
Raikkonen said: "Even in the hard times we stuck together and we didn't give up. Even from a long way behind we didn't give up. We worked very hard and Felipe helped too. The team has been very close together."
He added: "We were not in the strongest position at some points of the season but we always believed we could recover and do a better job than the others."
Raikkonen started third on the grid but soon moved ahead of Massa and Hamilton, who had a disastrous start and was eighth by the end of the first lap and eventually finished seveth.
Raikkonen added: "I got a good start and was side by side with Felipe. But the main thing was not to race with him, but get past Hamilton.
"I then saw him (Hamilton) go off and I knew maybe we had a chance.
"It was perfect teamwork from the team and it paid off - not only in this race but all season."
