Shane Warne's Hampshire, winners two years ago while he was away on Ashes duty, stood 158 for five and needed to score at virtually nine an over in the remaining 17.3 overs to beat Durham's 312 for five.

Unlike other one-day competitions, a reserve day was scheduled for the 50-over version and play was due to resume at 10.45am.

But steady rain overnight and again this morning ruled out any possibility of a prompt resumption and it was simply a question of waiting to see if conditions improved.

Inevitably, there were only a few spectators in the ground compared to the previous day's full house - they were out-numbered by the stewards - and it was the bleakest of scenes.
