Ramos happy to stick with Robinson
12 January 2007
Ramos stopped short of giving his total 100% support to the England stopper - as former boss Martin Jol often did - but he did offer encouragement to the 28-year-old.
"Paul is one of the best goalkeepers in England - he is the number one for England," said Ramos, whose team beat Wigan 4-0 in the Barclays Premier League at White Hart Lane on Sunday. "If he keeps playing the way he is playing at the moment, of course I'm going to count on him and I'm going to keep him in mind."
Spurs took great pride in having a British spine to their team under Jol, but Ramos has insisted he will not be favouring players from particular countries as he looks to climb the table.
It has led to Spurs being linked with goalkeepers such as Schalke's Manuel Neuer and Udinese's Samir Handanovic.
Ramos, however, also sees Robinson as one of the leaders within the squad - and the goalkeeper was given the captain's armband when Robbie Keane was substituted against Wigan.
"I'm quite happy with him," Ramos added of his goalkeeper. "In four matches he's been able to keep three clean sheets.
"One of the important things is he is one of the captains of the team and has been very good on and off the pitch, creating and building morale."
