Rams close in on duo
08 January 2008
The Barclays Premier League bottom club have agreed a fee with Blackburn for combative midfielder Savage while announcing they expect former Newcastle star Robert to sign on Tuesday.
News of the likely double capture comes on the day the club received international clearance to play another new signing, Argentinian striker Emanuel Villa.
Former Wales international Savage is now expected to meet Rams officials on Tuesday afternoon to discuss terms.
The Robert signing could be confirmed even sooner with the 32-year-old Frenchman now at Pride Park finalising a deal until the end of the season.
Robert, who also had a brief spell at Portsmouth in 2005, has been without a club since being released by Levante earlier in the season.
He has spent the past few days training with the Rams and done enough to impress manager Paul Jewell.
Jewell also seems unlikely to stop at his signing with a new goalkeeper in his sights due to injuries to Stephen Bywater and Lewis Price.
Jewell added: "We are looking for a goalkeeper and will hopefully complete a deal today (Tuesday) or tomorrow."
On a positive day for the Rams, Villa's work permit was also granted. The 25-year-old Argentinian striker completed his £2million move to Pride Park from Mexican side UAG Tecos last week.
