Rams plan 'four or five' window buys

Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Blackburn at Pride Park leaves Derby eight points adrift at the bottom and 10 points away from safety, but with an immediate return to the Coca-Cola Championship looming large, Pearson insists Jewell will be handed funds to ensure the club are suitably equipped to make a push for survival in the second half of the campaign.
"We're not going to concede anything yet, but we've got to be realistic - it looks a very difficult challenge," he told Sky Sports News. "The recruitment we do in January will be based on a bit of pragmatism. There's no doubt we need to bring some new players to freshen it up ready to give it a real go towards the end of the season."
He added: "We're certainly going to be investing in this window - that is for sure. We're obviously going to be bringing in four or five players if we possibly can.
"We're going to spend some money this window and we're going to move players in and out just as every club in the Premier League and Championship will be doing.
"Obviously we have half an eye on our situation and the players we bring in - some will be for this season some will be for next."
Incredibly, Derby are the only club in the Premier League without a non-British European player in their squad.
And Pearson feels that if the club are to make a concerted push to retain their top-flight status then the club's scouting network will need to be fully utilised over the next month.
"We're going to look to push our net a little wider than we have done in the past," he explained. "We're probably the only Premier League club without a European player from outside the UK which is something unique in the Premier League.
"So we need to look further afield and that's what Paul and his scouting team are doing."
