Randhawa shines in Delhi

Local hero Jyoti Randhawa carded a flawless seven-under-par 65 to take the lead at the inaugural Indian Masters at Delhi Golf Club.

The 35-year-old holds a two-shot advantage over Richard Finch and in-form Irishman Damien McGrane after the opening round.

Two-time US Open champion Ernie Els shot a quadruple-bogey at the 18th on his way to a three-over-par 75.

Randhawa said afterwards: "It was a great round - you can't ask for a better first round.

"The Delhi Golf Club doesn't leave you alone, it keeps you under pressure all the time. I just think of past performances and it helps a lot."

McGrane agreed with Randhawa, adding: "It is difficult to get up and down. The ball reacts differently on every chip shot and every putt, so it's about making birdies whenever you get the opportunities."

Jose Manuel Lara, Thomas Bjorn and Shiv Kapur are at four under, with Graeme McDowell, two-time major winner Mark O'Meara and English duo David Lynn and Benn Barham in a group one, stroke further back.
