Redknapp defied the odds with Bournemouth by beating United 25 years ago in the FA Cup, defeated them on their way to winning that competition last season with Portsmouth and even denied Ferguson the league title in 1995 by earning a draw with West Ham.

"If our name is on the cup I would be delighted," Redknapp said. "It looked like we were certainly going out of the cup with two or three minutes left. Maybe there was a little bit of luck there."

Spurs only reached the final following late goals at Burnley after the Championship side had clawed back a 4-1 deficit from the first leg and led on the away goals rule.

Getting through by the skin of their teeth was seen as a turning point of the season, with fears that an embarrassing defeat would impact on their battle for Barclays Premier League survival.

The narrow aggregate victory also created the problem of fixture congestion for Redknapp, who fielded a full-strength team against Hull on Monday then in midweek played his reserves and youngsters in the UEFA Cup.

"It's on the back of a good week for me," Redknapp said. "My energy levels are pretty low but the lads are fantastic."

Aside from Heurelho Gomes, Redknapp's first team were rested for the European clash against Shakhtar Donetsk, but there are still huge decisions for the final.

Redknapp will wait until as late as possible before deciding whether Ledley King can play, with his skipper featuring at Hull but needing time to rest his knee. Michael Dawson is waiting to deputise at centre-back.

"Dawson has been fantastic, but I picked Ledley the other night because he's so important and he's a special player," Redknapp said. "It's always the case with Ledley of waiting to see how he recovers after a game - he doesn't train from Monday to Friday, comes out the day before a game and has a loosener then pitches up and plays. I'll have a look at him and see how he is really."
