Redknapp: No chance of Young arrival
10 January 2009
Redknapp has been linked with the 24-year-old, who earned the PFA Young Player of the Year award after his performances last season and could solve Tottenham's problems on the left flank.
"Everybody would like to have him but I don't think there is a chance we would get him. He's a fantastic player and Aston Villa do not want to sell him, I don't think he's available," Redknapp said after the 3-0 pre-season win over Olympiacos.
Redknapp is also an admirer of Celtic midfielder Scott Brown, although the Spurs boss does not expect any more arrivals ahead of next week's Barclays Premier League opener against Liverpool.
Against Greek champions Olympiacos, David Bentley and Kevin-Prince Boateng were given rare appearances.
With no obvious takers for the out-of-favour midfielders, they could be among the competition for squad places at the start of the season.
"David is a great crosser and can make goals for Crouchy (Peter Crouch) with that delivery," Redknapp said.
"He did it for Roque Santa Cruz [when both players were at Blackburn] so I'm sure he can do it for Peter Crouch."
Boateng only played twice for Spurs last season before being loaned out.
"They paid good money for Boateng when he came here and I think the market is in Germany for him, not here. If someone comes in we'll look at it but I'm not desperate to get rid of too many players," said Redknapp.
