Reds offload Paletta

Liverpool have sold Argentinian defender Gabriel Paletta to Boca Juniors.

The 21-year-old only joined the club last summer in a £2million deal from Banfield, and made just six starts for the club.

He scored on his debut in a 4-3 Carling Cup win over Reading last term and was considered a long-term successor to the likes of Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher.

But Liverpool have clearly decided to cash in on the youngster, who they snapped up following his impressive displays in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championships.

Argentina won the tournament, with Paletta playing in all seven games alongside the likes of Lionel Messi.
