Reds to unveil duo
13 January 2007
The Reds confirmed on their website on Thursday that the Babel transfer would be completed on Friday after they agreed an £11.5million fee with Ajax, while Benayoun has sealed his deal to move to Merseyside from West Ham.
With Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres costing a club-record £20million last week Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez's plans to build a squad capable of challenging for the Barclays Premier League title appear to be virtually complete.
And 20-year-old Babel believes he has a significant part to play next season.
"I listened to what they (Liverpool) had to say and I got a great feeling about the club," he told Ajax TV. "I have made a choice with my heart. The coach has big plans for me."
Babel briefly returned to Holland to say his farewells and although he admitted leaving Ajax was a wrench he said he was excited about a move to Anfield.
"I am very happy with it," he said. "I am now only at Ajax to say goodbye to everyone, and I must say that's quite difficult.
"I think I will miss the fans, the ones that have always supported me, the guys (Ajax team-mates) of course and the coach.
"I certainly leave Ajax with pain in my heart. I will come to Amsterdam quite often, and then I will come to visit the club."
